Psychiatry Services
Integrated Psychiatric Care to Support Your Therapy and Assessment journey.
Psychiatry Services at BeWell Clinics
At BeWell Clinics, Psychiatry is integrated into a collaborative care model that supports your mental health journey. We offer short-term medication management* services that are covered by OHIP and aligned with Ontario’s healthcare regulations. Whether you’re currently engaged in services at BeWell or connecting with us for the first time, we’re here to support your journey. Please review the information below to learn how Psychiatric Care can be accessed at our centres.
Note (internal and external clients): Our psychiatrists do not conduct diagnostic assessments. Their role is limited to supporting treatment through short-term medication management.
- You may be eligible to access OHIP-covered short-term medication management services with our psychiatrists.
- These services are available after a completing one of our Assessment Programs or while attending Talk Therapy services.
- To see our Psychiatry team, we require a referral form from your Family Doctor. Contact our Care Team to help you sort out next steps.
- Due to limited capacity, we are prioritizing psychiatric appointments for internal clients.
- However, we maintain an external waitlist for OHIP-covered medication management services. We will review referrals from the waitlist as availability permits.
- You may be added to this list by contacting us and submitting a referral along with your referral form from your Family Doctor.
- Services will be offered to waitlisted individuals as availability allows.
*Our Psychiatry team aims to provide ongoing medication management, for a period of time, whenever possible. However, during the diagnostic assessment, it may be determined that the complexity of the case requires a level of care beyond what we can provide.
Treatment options and next steps will be thoroughly discussed during the initial consultation. If the Psychiatrist determines that ongoing care would be better managed by the Family Doctor, the client will be transitioned back to their referring physician. To ensure continuity of care, the Psychiatrist will provide detailed recommendations, including medication guidelines, treatment protocols, and advice to support the physician in managing the client’s ongoing needs

Do I Need to See a Psychiatrist?
If you are experiencing persistent or severe mental health symptoms, have been diagnosed with a mental health condition, are receiving or considering psychiatric medication, or want to better manage the mental and physical impacts of your mental health situation, then seeing a Psychiatrist might be helpful.
Here are some scenarios in which Psychiatry can become a helpful tool:
- Working with a therapist & your therapist recommends a Psychiatric evaluation
- Experiencing intense or prolonged symptoms that affect your daily life
- Struggling with mood, sleep, or concentration despite efforts in therapy
- Going through and assessment and it's determined that you would benefit from psychiatric medication
- Having difficulty regulating emotions, such as persistent anxiety, anger, or sadness
- Noticing changes in appetite, sleep, or energy that are hard to manage
- Facing a mental health crisis or significant disruption in your functioning
- Repeating unhelpful patterns despite insight or effort
- Managing multiple conditions at once (e.g., ADHD and anxiety) and need a comprehensive plan

Finding the right specialist can be confusing! Here’s a breakdown of what each kind of professional offers:
Psychotherapist – See a psychotherapist for talk therapy if you need support, coping strategies, or personal growth through guided conversations. They cannot prescribe medication.
Psychologist – See a psychologist if you need mental health assessments, diagnoses, or structured therapy using evidence-based treatments. They do not prescribe medication.
Psychiatrist – See a psychiatrist if you may need medication management to support your mental health journey. They are medical doctors who can prescribe medication.
Our team of leading experts work together to make sure our clients receive the best care for their situation. If you are still unsure about what service or professional is right for you, contact us for a free consultation
You must have a valid OHIP card and referral completed by your family doctor or GP, in order to see our Psychiatrist. This includes patients who are enrolled in our Talk Therapy or Assessment Programs. Depending on the complexity of your condition, your referral may not be accepted if our Psychiatry team feels that they might not be able to support your care.
Psychiatry appointments are covered by OHIP, meaning your family doctor must send us a referral before we can book you. We do our best to have approved patients seen as promptly as possible.
At BeWell, we are committed to providing high-quality, accessible mental health care in accordance with the Health Insurance Act and the Commitment to the Future of Medicare Act (CFMA). Our psychiatrists offer OHIP-insured services. While we strive to make these services available to the broader community, due to capacity limitations, we are currently prioritizing appointments for clients actively engaged in our internal programs.
For individuals not enrolled in our programs, we maintain an external waitlist for psychiatric services. If you would like to be added to this waitlist, please contact us. We will review referrals from the waitlist as availability permits.
