How can parents be involved in their child’s therapy progress?

Parental involvement is an important part of supporting a child’s mental health, but the level of involvement depends on the child’s age, capacity to consent, and the type of therapy provided.

  • In Ontario, youth have the right to confidentiality once they are deemed capable of making their own treatment decisions, which can occur at any age based on the therapist and patient’s understanding.

Our clinicians aim to strike a balance between respecting patient privacy and keeping parents meaningfully involved. If safety concerns arise, therapists are legally required to inform parents or guardians.
