Mikah (they/them) is a genderqueer art therapy intern who brings compassion and creativity to their work in journeying alongside clients. Inspired by the natural world, Mikah weaves together mindfulness, creativity, somatics, movement, and play throughout the healing process to support their clients. They approach the therapeutic relationship from a person-centred lens that harnesses a collaborative and strengths-based framework. Rooted in a trauma-informed and anti-oppressive praxis, they are committed to ongoing learning and aim to create a safer judgment-free space for their clients.
Drawing from a variety of modalities, Mikah blends together elements of narrative practice, cognitive-behavioural therapy, internal family systems, and psychodynamics with creative expression to support their clients in feeling more resourced and empowered. They have worked across a variety of settings, from hospitals to community centres, supporting children and youth, adults, and elders, including marginalized individuals from neurodiverse and 2SLGBTQ+ communities. They have experience supporting individuals navigating concerns about life transitions, stress, self-esteem, relationship issues, anxiety, depression, trauma, chronic pain, grief and loss.
Education: Mikah is currently completing their Master of Art Therapy from the Toronto Art Therapy Institute, where they are actively honing their skills as an art psychotherapist. Before this, Mikah completed a Bachelor of Fine Art with a specialization in photography and social sciences from OCAD University. They also completed their Yoga Teacher Training in 2019 and are a registered yoga teacher and meditation instructor.
