What concerns can these assessments help evaluate?
Our comprehensive assessment programs are designed to help families better understand their child's strengths, challenges, and developmental needs. Assessments may help evaluate concerns related to:
- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Learning disabilities and academic skill development
- Academic challenges and barriers to school success
- Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and attention-related concerns
- Cognitive functioning and learning profile
- Attention, executive functioning, and self-regulation skills
- Speech and language development concerns
- Social communication, developmental differences, and adaptive functioning
Does my child need a referral?
No. A physician referral is not required to book an assessment. Families can contact our team directly to schedule a complimentary consultation and discuss their concerns.
What happens during the assessment?
Your child's assessment may include a parent or self-interview, standardized assessment tools, questionnaires, clinical observations, and a feedback session. The specific process will depend on your child's unique needs and the type of assessment recommended.
What will I receive after the assessment?
You will receive a comprehensive written report outlining the assessment findings, your child's strengths, areas of need, and personalized recommendations for home, school, and ongoing support. Your psychologist will also meet with you during a dedicated feedback session to review the results, answer your questions, and discuss next steps.
Can the assessment be shared with my child's school?
Yes. Our reports are designed to support collaboration with schools, physicians, therapists, and other healthcare providers. Findings and recommendations may help guide educational planning, accommodations, and ongoing supports.
Are these assessments covered by insurance?
Many extended health benefit plans provide coverage for psychological assessment services. We recommend contacting your insurance provider to confirm your specific coverage. BeWell provides detailed receipts that can be submitted for reimbursement. Direct billing may be available or partially available for some policies.
What happens if my child receives a diagnosis?
Our support continues beyond the assessment. Depending on your child's needs, we can provide access to therapy, parent support, medication management, and additional services to help your family understand the diagnosis and move forward with confidence.
My child already has ADHD (or another diagnosis). Can they still have an autism or psychoeducational assessment?
Yes. Many children have multiple areas of strength and challenge that may benefit from further exploration. During your consultation, our team will help determine whether an autism assessment, psychoeducational assessment, or combined assessment is the most appropriate option for your child.
My child is very young. Is it too early for an assessment?
Early assessment can help identify developmental differences and connect families with appropriate supports as soon as possible. For children between 2 and 7 years old, our psychologists will first complete a consultation to determine the most appropriate assessment approach based on your child's developmental stage, strengths, and presenting concerns.
What if I'm not sure whether an assessment is the right next step?
That's exactly what the complimentary consultation is for. Our team will answer your questions, learn more about your concerns, and help you determine whether an assessment is appropriate and which option best fits your child's needs.
