Care Across Ontario
See What Others Had to Say
These stories were shared directly by NourishED Youth families and are presented in their own words.
"I honestly didn't know where to turn. Within the first few weeks, our daughter was eating more consistently and, just as importantly, talking to us again. The combination of therapy, nutrition support, and guidance for us as parents made all the difference. We finally felt like we had a team beside us instead of trying to figure it out alone."
— Melissa R., Parent of 14-year-old"I didn't think therapy would help because I felt like nobody understood what was going on in my head. For the first time, I don't feel scared around food every single day."
— Anonymous, Age 15"They explained every step, involved us without making him feel like he had no voice, and helped our family communicate better."
— Daniel S., Parent of 16-year-old"Before starting, every meal felt like a fight in our house. The therapists helped us understand what was happening, and the dietitian gave us practical strategies instead of making us feel like we were failing."
— Sarah L., Parent of 13-year-old"Our daughter had seen professionals before, but this was the first time everyone worked together. Having her therapist and dietitian on the same page saved us from repeating our story over and over. The communication between the team was incredible."
— Jennifer M., Parent of 15-year-old"I appreciated that they cared about more than just food. They helped my son manage his anxiety, perfectionism, and confidence at school too."
— Anonymous, Parent of a 13-year-old"I liked that nobody told me I was 'being difficult.' They explained why recovery is hard and helped me take it one step at a time. I'm eating things I avoided for years, and I actually feel proud of myself."
— Anonymous, Age 17"As parents, we constantly questioned whether we were saying the right things. The caregiver support gave us practical tools and reassurance when we needed it most. We stopped blaming ourselves and started working together."
— Priya N., Parent of 12-year-old"From the intake to every follow-up appointment, we always knew what the next step was. The administrative team checked in regularly, answered questions quickly, and made a difficult process feel much more manageable."
— Christine B., Parent of 15-year-old"4 months later our daughter laughs more. We know there's still work ahead, but we're incredibly grateful for the support our family received."
— Michael H., Parent of 14-year-oldFrequently
Asked Questions
How do I know if my child needs eating disorder support?
You don't need to wait for a diagnosis to seek help. If you're noticing changes in eating habits, body image, exercise behaviours, mood, social engagement, or school performance, please call us today and we can help you determine if NourishED Youth is the right fit for your family.
Call +1 647-715-3900
Do parents need to be involved in treatment?
In most cases, yes. Caregiver involvement is often an important part of recovery. The level of involvement depends on your child's age, needs, and treatment recommendations.
What does treatment look like?
Treatment is tailored to your child's unique needs and may include therapy, nutritional counselling, family support, medical monitoring, or a combination of services. Our treatment plans are guided by evidence-based approaches such as Family-Based Treatment (FBT) and CBT-E.
Can you help if my child is struggling at school?
Yes. Eating disorders can impact concentration, attendance, academic performance, and social functioning. We consider these challenges when developing treatment recommendations and recovery plans.
What if I'm not sure whether this is an eating disorder?
That's okay. Many families reach out before they know exactly what's happening. A consultation can help determine whether your concerns may be related to an eating disorder, disordered eating, body image concerns, or another challenge, and guide you toward the appropriate next steps. A diagnosis is not required for support.
Will my child's family doctor be involved?
Yes. Medical monitoring is a required part of treatment at NourishED Youth. Before beginning treatment, we require medical clearance and growth charts from your child's primary care provider (family doctor, pediatrician, or nurse practitioner).
Throughout treatment, our team collaborates closely with your child's primary care provider to monitor medical stability and ensure everyone involved in care is working toward the same recovery goals.
If you're unsure about this process or your child does not currently have a primary care provider, please contact our team at 647-715-3900. We're happy to help guide you through the next steps.
Do you offer virtual appointments?
Yes. We offer both virtual and in-person appointments to make specialized eating disorder care accessible across Ontario.

How long does treatment last?
Recovery looks different for every child. The length of treatment depends on symptom severity, nutritional needs, medical stability, family involvement, and treatment goals. For eating disorders, we have found that usually a minimum of 10 treatment sessions is needed. However, your care team will regularly review progress and adjust recommendations as recovery unfolds.
What if my child needs a higher level of care?
If we determine that your child requires a level of support beyond outpatient treatment, we will discuss appropriate options and help connect your family with the resources needed to ensure your child receives the right level of care.
Does my child need to see both a therapist and dietitian?
Yes. At NourishED Youth, children and adolescents work with both a therapist and a registered dietitian throughout treatment.
Eating disorders impact both mental and physical health, which is why we use a multidisciplinary approach. Your child's therapist and dietitian collaborate closely to address the emotional, behavioural, and nutritional aspects of recovery while working alongside caregivers and primary care providers as part of one coordinated circle of care.
This integrated approach helps ensure treatment recommendations are aligned and supports the best possible outcomes for recovery.
Are services covered by insurance?
Many of our services are covered through extended health benefit plans. Coverage varies by provider and plan, so we recommend checking directly with your insurance company or giving us a call to walk you through the verification process.
What treatment approaches do you use?
Our treatment plans are guided by evidence-based approaches for adolescent eating disorders, including Family-Based Treatment (FBT/Maudsley) and Enhanced Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT-E). Depending on your child's needs, treatment may also incorporate approaches such as DBT, ACT, IPT, and EFT.
