Our Treatment Approach

Eating disorders affect both physical and mental health. Because of this, all NourishED clients participate in:

Individual Therapy
& Counselling

Evidence-Based Therapy for Adult Eating Disorders & Disordered Eating

Individual therapy is the foundation of the NourishED program. Our clinicians provide personalized, evidence-based treatment to help you better understand your relationship with food, body image, and the emotional factors that contribute to eating disorder symptoms. Using approaches tailored to your needs, we'll help you build practical skills, improve emotional well-being, and support lasting recovery.

Nutrition
Counselling

Registered Dieticians & Certified Nutritional Practitioners

Our team provides specialized support to help you rebuild a safe and nourishing relationship with food. Eating disorder-informed nutrition care goes beyond general nutrition advice to address unhelpful eating behaviours, body image, and related health concerns. We also support concerns that commonly co-occur with disordered eating, including PCOS, pre-diabetes & diabetes management, athletic performance, pregnancy, fatty-liver, and hormonal health.

Medication
Management

Medication Management and Therapy working together for your well-being.

If medication may be helpful at any point in your treatment, our in-house psychiatric team can provide consultations and support for managing related conditions like anxiety, depression, or obsessive thoughts, ensuring your care remains comprehensive and seamlessly integrated.

Our Therapeutic
Approach

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Helps clients identify and reframe unhelpful thoughts and beliefs about food, body image, and self-worth. By challenging these patterns, clients develop healthier behaviours and greater confidence in daily life.

Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT)

Focuses on building practical skills in emotion regulation, distress tolerance, interpersonal effectiveness and mindfulness. These tools help clients manage intense emotions, reduce urges, and strengthen relationships.

02. Comprehensive Intake
Process & Treatment Planning

Our assessment process helps us understand your unique needs and develop a personalized treatment plan. This vital part of the process consists of three (3) phases:

  • 30-Min Meet & Greet $60.00 (no HST)
    Optional by request
We'll review the treatment process, discuss expectations, answer questions, and complete consent and service agreements. We will also go over medical monitoring and referral options.
  • 90-Min Comprehensive Intake Assessments $230.00 (no HST)
Next, you'll meet with our Eating Disorder Program Manager for a comprehensive intake session. This is an in-depth review where we review medical history, mental health history, current symptoms, eating habits & nutrition, eating disorder history, family dynamics, daily activity including school & social life, and goals for NourishED.
  • 50-Min Nutrition Assessment $195.00 (no HST)

Develop practical, flexible meal-planning skills that work with your lifestyle, family schedule, and cultural food preferences.
03. Treatment

See What Others Had to Say

These stories were shared directly by NourishED clients and are presented in their own words.

"I almost cancelled my first appointment because I convinced myself I could handle it alone. Looking back, making that call was one of the best decisions I've ever made."

— Sophie D.

"I spent nearly ten years telling myself I just needed more self-control. By the time I reached out, food controlled almost every decision I made. The team helped me understand that I wasn't broken but that I was dealing with an eating disorder that deserved treatment. For the first time in years, meals don't feel like a battle."

— Tatiana H.

"This program gave me confidence to eat without fear."

— Hannah J.

"I had tried diet after diet, convinced the next one would finally fix me. Instead, I just became more anxious around food. This program was completely different. They never focused on weight and helped me redefine my relationship with food and with myself."

— Vanessa B.

"I originally came because I wanted to stop binge eating. I didn't realize how much anxiety, perfectionism, and stress were driving my relationship with food. Therapy helped me understand the bigger picture, and nutrition counselling helped me rebuild trust with my body. It's changed every part of my life."

— Melissa C.

"My treatment started right away and I'm so grateful for the quick turnaround. I had tried some other programs but it always felt like I had to wait a lot between appointments. Thanks BeWell."

— Emma T.

"They helped me work through my anxiety that was showing up in my eating habits. I had access to a great support network with Sara and my psychologist."

— Brandon A.

"I had never worked with someone who understood eating disorders the way Sara does. I felt seen, respected, and never rushed. She helped me trust myself again."

— Sofia G.

"The team created a space where I could be honest. Great customer service too!"

— Mila F.

"...I came in through a referral and was surprised how easy it was to get started and coordinate the process with my family doctor. I can't recommend enough."

— Marina L.

"I never felt rushed or pressured. They met me where I was and celebrated every small win, which made it easier to keep showing up."

— Amanda K.

"For years I thought I just lacked willpower. Therapy helped me see that my eating disorder wasn't a personal failure. That shift in perspective has been life-changing."

— Rachel T.

"The nutrition sessions completely changed the way I think about food. Instead of rules and restrictions, I learned how to nourish myself without guilt. I never thought eating could feel this normal."

— Olivia C.

Frequently
Asked Questions

Is medical monitoring included?

We offer guidance for medical monitoring for primary care providers with our Registered Nurse to keep track of your vitals and overall health throughout treatment.

Do I need a referral from my family doctor?

No referral is required. You can self-refer to our services directly. However, if you have a family doctor, we encourage collaboration to ensure comprehensive care.

Is the program covered by insurance?

Many insurance plans cover our programs. We recommend checking with your insurance provider for specific coverage details. Our team can also assist you with insurance verification.

Do you provide inpatient care?

We offer outpatient care only.

Are services covered by OHIP?

No, our services are covered under extended health care plans only. We can also offer direct billing whenever possible.

How do I know if I need this treatment?

If you're experiencing symptoms that affect your daily life, seeking help is a positive step. Our team offers free consultations to assess your needs and determine if our treatment is right for you.

Is an eating disorder diagnosis required?
  • No diagnosis is required in order to access services. NourishED focuses on treating needs, and treatment starts with a comprehensive intake to gain a strong understanding of client needs from the very beginning.
  • For those looking to obtain a formal diagnosis, diagnostic assessments are available at BeWell.
Will I be required to be weighed?
  • Not every NourishED client will be weighed. Every client's relationship with the scale will vary; collaborative weighing as part of the treatment plan will be determined on a client-by-client basis. We empower our clients to be a part of this discussion.
  • NourishED may utilize client-weights for a variety of reasons, such as: monitoring medical stability, testing predictions around weight, debunking weight-related myths, learning to listen to the body and better understanding the fluctuations involved in weight.
  • When weight restoration is indicated, weight collection will be required at NourishED or with an external provider.
Do I have to work with a dietitian?
  • Every client's treatment plan is individualized and not everyone will work with a dietitian.
  • For those looking to connect with an ED-informed dietitian, the service is openly available at NourishED. For those less certain, collaborative discussions with the client and multidisciplinary team, as well as identified therapy goals, help to direct this decision.
  • For clients needing weight restoration and renourishment, a dietitian will be required for safety and to ensure therapy targets are being met.
How long does the program take?
  • There is no set timeline to therapy. Some clients may benefit from shorter or longer program engagement.
  • NourishED works to meet the client where they are at, determine a treatment plan together, and regularly review progress to update the plan as needs shift in recovery.
What if I feel pressured or the pace is too fast?
  • NourishED understands that recovery is not a straight line and every client will have their own journey. Our team will adapt the pace of treatment as needed, while still being mindful of recovery objectives and steps to reach them.
  • Many of our clients come in with ambivalence or a history of invalidation; it is important to NourishED to meet clients where they are and empower them with choice wherever possible.
How do you measure success in the program?
  • Built in review sessions after every 10 appointments helps NourishED ensure we are adapting the treatment plan as recovery needs shift. Review appointments allow us to reinforce wins thus far and identify remaining challenges to address with an updated treatment plan.
  • NourishED incorporates self-report questionnaires within the program strategically, to collect client insight and observe progress towards recovery goals. Additionally, NourishED regularly tracks ED symptoms and other clinical details for outcome monitoring.
